    Professor of Korean Studies

    Historian of Korea and Northeast Asia. He has worked on forgery and the political use of the past, in Forging the Past: Creative Deception and National Identity in Medieval Korea (2008), on the forged Ten Injunctions of the Koryŏ dynasty. His other books include Establishing a Pluralist Society in Medieval Korea (Brill, 2010) and, as co-editor and translator, Vestiges of the Three Kingdoms of Ancient Korea: A Translation of the Samguk yusa (2025).

    Cultural historian of early-modern print culture in the Dutch Republic and Britain. She has published on forgery in seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century print, curated the Leiden University Library exhibition Books, Crooks and Readers: The Seduction of Forgery (1600–1800) (2014), and works on Mapping the Fake Republic (1550–1800), a study of forgery in the Dutch Republic and a new Special Collection of Dutch fakes and forgeries at Leiden University Library.
